On Self-Worth, Serving Others and Charging Our Worth
Read this for thoughts on: Self-Worth, Money Stories, the Value of Impact
Key Insight: Love only flows when we give and receive fully.
Although our calling comes from the deepest part of us, too many of us resist charging what we’re worth. In the name of humility, we can overlook or undermine the impact of our truest passions that point directly to our identity and our purpose.
What’s all that about?
I know and see how many of us question the value of what we do. Listen up if you’re a coach, artist, culinary hobbyist, teacher or entrepreneur.
Let’s set the scene. Yesterday a client wanted to pay $1000 for the call we had.
My first thought was shock, followed by a quick “no”. ‘I can’t accept that’, I said. The client insisted, saying that’s what the call was worth to them.
This client is an investor who works with businesses around the world. We had a breakthrough that taught him how to navigate conflict with a big player in his industry. The call ended up having a 7 figure impact on his business.
Real Talk?
I have big reservations about coaches who overcharge for sub-par work.
So I charge what I feel my work is worth.
Yesterday, however, was like being hit with a frying pan to my face.
After the call I kept asking: WHAT am I missing? Is this a fluke or is this work worth (a lot) more than I’m charging? Maybe I can charge this in the future but not NOW.
As I asked those questions, I realised what I was really saying was this.
“My love, my presence, my skills, my insight and guidance – are worth less now. At an arbitrary point in the future when I’ll achieve more, I’ll be Worth it then”.
Needless to say, that awareness peeled back some of my own layers about humility, goodwill, shame, guilt and receiving.
I love giving to others, really seeing them, loving them and supporting them through change. What I give is a reflection of my love for people.
Receiving? Ah, that is something I’m still learning about.
Yesterday was a message from the Universe that said, ‘Hey Ray? What this client is giving is a reflection of their love for what you do and who you are’.

Truth be told, I don't absolutely know what my work is worth. It changes lives and businesses, that I know.
I also know I can only find out what my work is worth if I notice when I’m reminded by my clients and the Universe, and if I say Yes to that reminder.
The circle is only complete when we both give and receive.
Love truly flows when our hearts stay open through both
Of course we must choose who we enter the circle with, so I’m feeling humbled and grateful to be where I am. This is as much a spiritual milestone as it is a financial one. Whew.
it really cleared a money story I had for a long time.
It made me really sit with the impact I had on another human being and allow myself to receive their gratitude in a way I was uncomfortable before.
It also allowed me to take a big leap of faith about the value of my work.
Now, I hope you spend some time reflecting on the impact of your gifts.
Notice what you do love to do for others and how it makes them feel.
What is that feeling worth?
How would your life change if you allowed yourself to receive that feeling in return?
